Guard Your Heart
The famous kid song O Be Careful Little Eyes is making a comeback in my 42 year old brain, on repeat lately. The song tells us to be careful little eyes what we see, little ears what we hear, little tongue what you say, little hands what you do, little feet where you go, little heart whom you trust, little mind what you think for the Father up above is looking down in love. So, be careful little mind what you think. What a simple song yet holds a lot of weight. As a mom and Preschool director, this is easy and natural to instill in our children. We filter television and screen time; we are very careful of the words that children hear and say along with sheltering them and their hearts as much as we can to protect them from the darkness of the world. The thought crossed my mind, as a child of God, what is God asking me to filter out of my life or maybe takes from the time I could be spending with God, serving others, or pouring into my family? Yikes… that’s convicting. Each of these areas could use some work sadly, but If I picked just one area to work on… I would start with my mind. My thoughts can become negative very quickly and can be overwhelmed with anxiety and fear in no time at all…I know that is not from the Lord, yet I struggle with and fight against regularly. I like to think that these songs and thoughts that pop into my head as God giving me a nudge to do something different and to reflect where I can change with His guidance and strength.
Philippians 4:8 says “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent-or praiseworthy-think about such things.” This verse is specific and lists what the Lord is calling us to fix our thoughts on. I pray that as Thanksgiving approaches that we focus in on all these things and truly lean into all that we have to be thankful for.
