Who Are We?

I have spent a little over a month updating the church’s digital presence on our website, social media, and by renovating our app (read more about that below!) Our church has been through a lot over the past few years – a denominational split, a pandemic, a disaffiliation process, and the loss of so many people that we love. It has left me wondering, “Who are we now?”

One day after church I was sitting in the sanctuary after everyone had left and all of the lights were turned off.  I was drawn to the light of our stained glass windows and I started taking pictures. I walked around to each window and took pictures from different angles, studying the glass as I slowly made my way through the space. I looked at the colors and the shapes and the tiny blemishes that make each individual piece totally unique. Some colors are vibrant and others muted. There are pieces that have squared edges, others rounded, some with 3 sides and some with 4 sides. There are large pieces that are brightly colored and immediately stand out and others that are so small and pale that you hardly notice them. All of the pieces were full of imperfections like bubbles, chips, and an occasional hairline crack. They are broken pieces of glass each with a beauty of its own yet, as a part of a whole, fused into one body; they create a glorious kaleidoscope of color when the light shines.

This is who we are as a church.

We are broken individuals who have chosen to connect with others that have different ideas, backgrounds, and experiences. We gather together to challenge each other and grow in our faith.

This is who we are as a church.

We are people who trust in our creator to piece together our individual brokenness in order to design a community where the love of Christ can shine through with unmatched beauty.

This is who we are as a church.

We are imperfect people who follow and worship and trust in a perfect God. A God of hope and healing, a God of justice and mercy, a God abounding in grace and a God overflowing with love.

“So in Christ Jesus you are ALL children of God through FAITH, for ALL of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are ALL ONE in Christ Jesus.” - Galatians 3:26-28

One in Christ Jesus, this is who we are as a church.

Be Blessed,
