Peace: Dancing With Snakes
In his book, “Blue Like Jazz,” Donald Miller wrote: 'My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove (God) doesn't exist, and some other guys who do believe in God and they can prove (God) does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly I don't care." This resonates with me. I’ve stopped trying to figure out who God is, or who’s right and who’s wrong. Hebrews 11 describes faith as “the assurance of things hoped for… confidence in what we do not see” (vs.1). I think we sometimes want to define faith as being sure of what we “know,” and confident in what we can see and do. Mark 16 describes taking up snakes, drinking poison, healings, exorcisms and tongues as “signs” of belief (faith). Are these practices evidence of your faith and God’s faithfulness? Join me this Sunday as we talk about it.
