I Think You Forgot Something
I used to think the word comeuppance was instead a phrase, “come up ‘ens!” Like someone will get what’s coming to them… their come up ‘ens. Crazy I know, but it seemed to make sense, especially because the definition of comeuppance is: “a punishment or fate that someone deserves.” The thought that someone will get what’s coming to them is an idea that sets the balance of life right. Justice is served when comeuppance resets the order of our existence. Speaking of balance, how then do we balance this with Jesus when he said, “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” (Matt. 4:44), “I desire mercy, not sacrifice,” (Matt 9:13), ““Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 22:34). What about their “come up ‘ens?!”
