Be Led to Lead
Last Sunday I preached from Ephesians 3, where it’s written of the Apostle Paul praying on his knees that the Gentiles would be able to comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge; to know the overwhelming love of Jesus to the point of overflowing. Think about the times you have experienced overwhelming love. I hope there are many! A time that pours over the edge of my memory is every Sunday one of the children in our church greets me. Whenever she spots me from across the room, she rushes to give me a hug, one of those—cling to you like it’s the first time they’ve seen you in years kind of hugs—and in that moment the love of Christ surpasses knowledge. It makes me think of how Jesus said, “unless you receive the kingdom of God like a child, you will not enter it” (Mark 10:15). Unless we learn how to receive and experience the overflowing love of Jesus, we will not learn how to share it in the same quantity, without hesitation, abundantly and completely, like a child. We are led by grace to receive, that we might give a good measure of grace, pressed down, shaken together, and running over the hearts and lives of others. Join me this Sunday ready to receive all God would give!
