Who Do You Say I Am
Rabbi Abraham Heschel, a Jewish theologian, philosopher, author and teacher wrote, “We are closer to God when we are asking questions than when we think we have all the answers.” In his book, “Jesus is the Question, author Martin B. Copenhaver wrote, “Contrary to some common assumptions, Jesus is not the ultimate Answer Man, but more like the Great Questioner. In the Gospels Jesus asks many more questions than he answers. To be precise, Jesus asks 307 questions. He is asked 183 of which he only answers 3. Asking questions was central to Jesus' life and teachings.” In his book Questions Jesus Asked, Rev. Magrey R. DeVega explores six questions Jesus asked which are central to understanding the gospel. Over the next six weeks, we will explore those questions together, and like Rabbi Heschel suggested, I hope we will grow closer to God in our exploration.
