What Do You Live For?
I follow a guy named Matt on Instagram, a teacher, storyteller and author. He tells stories of his encounters with his students. One day, he wrote a question on the board, “What would you do with a million dollars?” as a writing prompt for his sixth-grade writing lesson. What his students didn’t know was there was a follow up question. Their responses to the first question were what you would expect: buying a car, going on an extravagant trip, helping people. When the free write was done and they had shared their responses, Matt followed up with the second question: “now what?” This confused some of his students. “When it’s all gone, what will you do? What will carry you forward?” he asked. “That’s the million-dollar question,” he said to his students. Jesus asked his disciples the same question. What do you live for?
