Everything Happens
Have you ever heard the phrase “Everything happens for a reason” after something tragic happens? It is something that we say often to make some sense of the world and some sense of how God acts in the world. Only, I don’t really think this sentiment provides any truth of that. Understanding how God acts in the world is difficult, and I don’t think any of us have the real answer because God is above our understanding, but I think that we as Christians can do better than to say, “everything happens for a reason.” Providence, or how God acts and takes care of us, is crucial to how we understand what happens to us and how we move forward as children of God. In Romans 8:28, Paul writes, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This week, we will explore how we can read Acts through the lens of Romans 8:28.
